This cult classic is a humorous tribute to the Science Fiction and Horror B movies of the late 1940s through to the early 1970s. The musical tells the story of a newly engaged couple getting caught in a storm and coming to the home of a mad transvestite scientist unveiling his new creation, a sort of frankenstein-style monster in the form of an artificially made, fully grown, physically perfect muscle man named Rocky Horror, complete with "blonde hair and a tan."
This is the musical stage version performed entirely by live actors unlike the film version of the popular cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which is performed with a pantomiming "shadow cast."
The film is also infamous for its audience participation (timed comments yelled at the screen along with the usage of various "live" hand props i.e. rice, toilet paper, newspapers, squirt guns etc). It is Community Theatre's decision/policy for this production that only the "Official CTTH/RHS Authorized bag of theatre throws" will be permitted.
As for the yelled commentary, various regions and productions may have regional or distinct adlibs directly related to those particular areas etc., but in general there are pretty specific phrases that have become "the norm " throughout the years. Please do NOT be alarmed if those around you should happen to yell out sporadically throughout the performance. This is all part of the fun. Thank you and for those who are "virgins" to the Rocky Horror experience whether on film or live onstage, ...don't dream it, be it!
