Ushering at Community Theatre of Terre Haute
Community Theatre of Terre Haute is known not only for outstanding performances, but also for the welcoming, personal touch that makes every audience member feel at home. Our ushers make that possible!
If you enjoy greeting people, helping others, and being part of the excitement of show night, this is the perfect way to get involved—no stage lights required.
What Ushers Do
Ushers are the ambassadors of our theatre. They ensure every patron has a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience from the moment they arrive until the final curtain call.
Typical duties include:
Greeting and welcoming guests as they enter the theatre
Scanning tickets at the door
Helping patrons find their seats
Handing out programs and answering questions about the show or facilities
Assisting patrons with accessibility needs or special accommodations
Selling concessions before the show and at intermission
Helping tidy the theatre and lobby areas after each performance
Skills & Qualities That Help
No prior theatre experience is needed—just a positive attitude and a willingness to help! The following traits are especially valuable for ushers:
Friendly, courteous, and welcoming demeanor
Dependability and punctuality
Comfort interacting with guests of all ages
Ability to stand and move around for short periods
A love for live theatre and community connection
Training is provided before your first shift, and you’ll be paired with experienced volunteers who can show you the ropes.
When You’re Needed
Usher shifts are approximately 3 hours each. You will arrive one hour before curtain and are free to leave about shortly after the show ends. Better yet—ushers get to see the show for free, provided seating is available. You can choose the shifts that fit your schedule—we’re grateful for any time you can give!
