Audition at Community Theatre of Terre Haute

We’re so glad you’re interested in auditioning at Community Theatre of Terre Haute! Whether you’re a seasoned performer or taking your first brave step onto the stage, you are welcome here.

Auditions are a chance for us to meet you, see your passion, and help you find your place in our community—on stage or behind the scenes. We’re an all-volunteer organization, and our productions thrive because of people like you.

What to Expect at Auditions

Our auditions are typically open to the public and held at the theatre. Each production may vary slightly, but here’s what you can generally expect:

Warm Welcome
You’ll be greeted by our team and asked to complete an audition form and conflict sheet when you arrive.

Play Auditions
Most non-musical auditions include cold readings from the script. You don’t need to prepare anything in advance unless the audition notice says otherwise.

Musical Auditions
If you’re auditioning for a musical, please prepare a short song that shows off your vocal ability and range. Bring clearly marked sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided. (Please, no a cappella or accompaniment tracks.) After singing, you may be asked to read scenes from the script and learn a short dance combination with the group.

No Experience? No Problem!
Many of our performers had their first audition with us. We’re here to help you feel comfortable, whether you’re trying theatre for the first time or returning after a break.

Casting
Our directors cast roles based on many factors, including performance, chemistry, and availability. We welcome performers of all backgrounds and identities.

Absolutely! We always need help backstage, with costumes, lighting, sets, and more. Volunteering is a great way to meet people and stay involved.

Directors typically contact those cast following the final night of auditions. If you’re not cast this time, we sincerely hope you’ll audition again—we love seeing familiar faces return.

Yes! You’re welcome to attend auditions as an observer, especially if you’re curious about the process or considering auditioning in the future. It’s a great way to get a feel for how things work. We just ask that you be respectful of the space and keep noise to a minimum so our auditioners can focus. If you’re interested in volunteering or getting involved in other ways, we’d love to chat—feel free to introduce yourself while you’re here.
